His service was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Similarly, Clint Eastwood also served in the US Army Reserves from 1951 to 1953. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant. And lastly, Kirk Douglas and Steve McQueen both served in the US Navy during World War II. McQueen was discharged as a private first-class.
